North Tahoe High School and Tahoe Truckee High School are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Plus, Tahoe students score consistently above state averages in CAP or statewide student testing programs. University of California reports show Truckee graduates perform equal to or better than graduates statewide. Truckee instrumental music programs are acknowledged throughout the state as outstanding. The athletic teams are consistent champions in their interscholastic divisions. The student dropout rate is less than 3 percent, which is three times lower than state averages. These are a few examples of TTUSD and student achievement. The Truckee school system is committed to continued academic development and evolution to ensure the best possible education for all children. Truckee School District Funding TTUSD is considered an "average wealth" district in California. It is financially sound, operating on a 17 million dollar annual budget through the state funding system. In addition, community support for education is well above average. Local voters have passed three measures and local citizens have formed an education foundation, all of which target local dollars to benefit local student education. Measure "S" In 1989 local voters passed a parcel tax assessment generating $1.5 million annually for four years for Truckee schools. These funds provide instructional supplies and programs for academic enhancement in areas such as advanced level courses, vocational education, elementary counseling, music and art programs, computer equipment and programs, and library support. In 1997, local voters renewed the parcel tax assessment for the next four years, again providing $1.5 million annually for Truckee schools. Excellence in Education Foundation In 1987 Truckee citizens established this private, nonprofit public benefit corporation which provided partnerships and grants that directly benefit local students. The foundation is also building an endowment, the interest monies of which will be used to provide support fostering teacher innovation and promoting student interest and success in learning.
